Demonstration held outside BNP conference in Liverpool

LIVERPOOL Council leader Joe Anderson said he will attempt to block a licence renewal by the owners of a club who hosted the BNP.

Around 30 people, organised by councillors and the Liverpool Anti-Fascists group, shouted and jeered as BNP leader and North West MEP Nick Griffin arrived at the Cricketer’s Function Rooms, in Wavertree.

Several police officers stood at the gate of the club to maintain order.

Cllr Anderson said he would now object to any application by those running the club to renew their licence.

The party said around 100 delegates were attending the meeting to discuss BNP policy motions.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: “The force recognises the right to demonstrate peacefully.”
