PUPILS of a Wirral primary school showed the spirit of Remembrance Day lives on by helping to repair a vandalised war memorial.
Year 6 students from Willaston CofE primary school dedicated their time and effort to replacing the war memorial plaque which was stolen.
The pupils showed their creative side by using calligraphy to illustrate each individual name on the memorial, which pays tribute to soldiers from the village who lost their lives in World Wars I and II.
Headmistress Julie Chambers said the children were “concerned” when the crime took place and thought it was important to put effort into each individual name on the plaque so that all of the heroes were granted the justice they deserved.
Ms Chambers added: “The children were thrilled to take part and we were delighted with the quality of their work and the maturity they showed whilst completing the project.
“Both the school and the children fully realise the importance of Remembrance Sunday and the need to pay tribute to those who lost their lives”.
The children had to complete their work on the memorial in time for the annual service which will be held at Christ Church, Hooton Rd, Willaston next Sunday, November 13.
Michael Coyle, 39, of Mellock Lane, Little Neston, Wirral, has denied handling stolen goods.
He will go on trial at Chester Crown Court on Thursday December 8.
