Liverpool MP Steve Rotheram calls for action over ‘trolling’ on internet tribute pages

A LIVERPOOL MP has joined calls for action over the abuse posted on Georgia’s Facebook page.

Walton MP Steve Rotheram opened a debate on his blog last week, asking for comments relating to the issue of “trolls” on the internet.

The memorial page, set up by Georgia’s school friends, was attacked with a barrage of grotesque messages and images.

When the Daily Post contacted Merseyside Police, it was told there would not be an investigation as there was no victim of harassment.

Since then Georgia’s friends have logged complaints and investigation has begun.

Mr Rotheram said: “It is difficult to prosecute as trolling is a new phenomena and doesn’t fall under any offence that already exists.”

He added he would try to introduce a Private Members Bill if possible.
