A LIVERPOOL doctor who was fined by police for being drunk and disorderly has been suspended.
Dr Sudheer Surapaneni also obtained a certificate saying he had passed his training when he had in fact not completed it.
The doctor, who was working at the Royal Liverpool Hospital at the time, was sanctioned at a General Medical Council (GMC) hearing yesterday.
A disciplinary panel found him guilty of misconduct and suspended him for four months.
The Manchester hearing was told that in 2009 Surapaneni did not meet training standards for his foundation year two qualification – the time between graduating from medical school and beginning to specialise in departments.
However he dishonestly obtained a certificate saying he had passed and told the GMC he was qualified.
Then on December 12 2010 he was issued with a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
A decision document reads: “The panel considers that your actions are so serious that they have brought the profession into disrepute, have undermined public confidence in the profession and demonstrate that your integrity cannot be relied upon. Whilst the panel has had concerns about your insight it accepts that your insight has developed during the course of this hearing. “You have apologised for your actions and have begun to accept your misconduct.”
