Brian Epstein
FAB Four fans will today come together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Brian Epstein talent-spotting The Beatles.
The Cavern is hosting a tribute to the gifted entrepreneur who helped Beatlemania sweep the globe.
The event will feature live music from many of the club’s resident performers as well as the unveiling of a new commemorative plaque to the music mogul.
Epstein’s name was also written into a mural at the back of the iconic club – though had to be hastily amended after a spelling error was spotted.
A correctly-spelt engraved brick will today be unveiled at the Cavern’s ‘Wall of Fame’.
Epstein remained The Beatles manager until his death in 1967, along with a roster of Merseybeat acts he took under his wing.
Jon Keats, events and marketing manager at The Cavern, said: “We’ve decided to pay tribute to the enormous legacy of Brian Epstein in the history of The Beatles.
“His involvement marked the beginning of things really starting to move forward for the band.
“He saw the excitement The Beatles could bring to a crowd of young people packed into a sweaty cellar and recognised their potential straight away.”
Epstein became the manager of The Beatles after catching their performance at one of the Cavern’s infamous lunchtime sessions.
As the owner of local record store NEMS, the budding svengali was already well connected to Liverpool’s music scene.
