Frank Cottrell Boyce is shortlisted for a Costa Book Award for The Unforgotten Coat

LIVERPOOL author Frank Cottrell Boyce is on the shortlist for a prestigious book award.

The writer is up against three others for the children’s book award title in the 2011 Costa Awards for his story The Unforgotten Coat.

The book was penned specifically for this year’s Our Reads campaign and launched by Frank on a London-bound train on World Book Day in March.

Judges said: “This book demands to be picked up not only because it tackles a contemporary issue in a humane and engaging way, but also because it’s so splendidly produced.”

Frank said today: “It’s amazing, this was a local project, it was written for Liverpool and it’s not like it had a big company pushing it.

“This was the last thing I expected.” The Unforgotten Coat centres around two Mongolian brothers attending a Bootle school.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held in London on January 24 next year.
