POLICE in Cheshire are hunting a callous thief who stole a poppy collection from a village bakery on Remembrance Day.
An investigation has been launched to find the suspect who has been linked to other thefts of poppy charity boxes from businesses across the Warrington and Frodsham areas last week.
Eight incidents have been reported beginning last Monday (November 5), when the suspect stole collection tins from the British Legion and an off- licence in Culcheth, a chip shop in Padgate, the Spar store in Grappenhall, the HSBC and the Main Street Post Office in Frodsham and a till from a Travelodge in Chester.
On November 11, while the rest of the nation mourned, the thief stole a collection box from a bakery on Church Street, in Frodsham.
Chief Insp Jon Ward said: “This particular type of crime can be described as nothing more than abhorrent and disrespectful to the memories of those to whom we pay our respects to during the Armistice memorial period.”
The suspect is described as a white man, in his early to mid 30s and around 6ft tall. He has brown shaven hair, receding at the crown.
