Liverpool John Lennon Airport strike threat as Servisair baggage handling staff plan walkout

BAGGAGE handlers at Liverpool John Lennon Airport have voted to strike in protest over compulsory redundancies.

The GMB union unveiled plans for a discontinuous strike beginning on November 23.

It would mean Servisair staff walking out for two hours each morning and afternoon next Wednesday and the following Friday, Sunday and Monday.

Union leaders warned delays, cancellations or rescheduling would become a possibility or flights could leave without luggage.

Airport chiefs at Speke are working to try and minimise any potential problems. And it is understood Servisair will try to draft in workers from other airports.

The dispute by 101 staff wound affect the airlines Servisair deal with - Ryanair, Easyjet, KLM, FlyBe and Hungarian-based WizzAir.

GMB claim up to a third of the workforce could lose their jobs.

The union accused Runcorn-based Servisair of a “blatant profit-making exercise”.
