Bin collections in west Cheshire to be revamped

BIN collections across west Cheshire will be “harmonised” next year.

Cheshire West and Chester Council said contractor May Gurney will deliver a new recycling and rubbish collection service to the borough, which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston.

Cllr Lynn Riley, executive member for environment, said the new contract will save £50m over 14 years.

The 14-year contract will transform the three existing collection arrangements from Cheshire West’s former boroughs, with phase one – the former Vale Royal area – beginning in June 2012.

Phase two – in the former Ellesmere Port and Neston area – starts in August 2012, while the final phase will be in Chester from November 2012.

Existing green wheelie bins will be used for garden waste and emptied on a fortnightly basis.

All brown and blue wheelie bins will be replaced with a new grey wheelie bin, which will be used for the collection of household waste.

It will be emptied on a fortnightly basis.
