LIVERPOOL will honour a world-famous son of the city when it receives a delivery by sea from the Royal Navy today.
Patrol vessel HMS Biter will make a special visit to Canning Half-Tide Dock, bringing a model of HMS Campanula, the corvette on which Liverpool novelist Nicholas Monsarrat served during World War Two.
The model was bought from an antique dealer in southern England by two members of the Liverpool Athenaeum club, as an addition to its Nicholas Monsarrat archive, donated by his widow, Ann, in 2007.
It is the first ship model to be owned by the club and will be displayed in the recently named Monsarrat Room.
Monsarrat’s experiences inspired his blockbuster novel, The Cruel Sea.
