A TEAM of volunteers from business law firm DWF picked up their gardening tools and helped to transform an area of disused land in the city’s Kensington district into a community open space for residents to enjoy.
The project was organised by the charity, Business in the Community (BITC), as part of the annual Make a Difference Day campaign.
Following the construction of a new traffic system in the area, a strip of land located close to the Kensington Fields Community Association centre was fenced off and became available to the community.
As many residents in the surrounding area have no garden space, the aim was to create an outdoor area that all could enjoy and benefit from.
DWF worked alongside teams from Merseyrail, Coca- Cola Enterprises and British Transport Police, as well as housing association, Riverside Housing, and homeless centre, Whitechapel Centre, to clear the site of rubbish and undergrowth, before creating flower beds and an outdoor seating area for residents to relax in and work on their gardening skills.
Tyrone Jones, DWF’s head of corporate responsibility, said: “Community engagement is a really important part of our business. We work hard to make sure all our workforce knows how they can make a positive difference and build a stronger role for DWF in wider society.”
