A MERSEYSIDE soldier was unlawfully killed on active service in Afghanistan, a coroner has recorded.
An inquest into the death of Marine Steven Birdsall, 20, heard how he was shot on the afternoon of June 13 last year.
Warrington-born Marine Birdsall was evacuated back to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he died of his wounds on June 14.
The former Sankey High School pupil left behind his mother Jenny, father Steve, and younger sister Melissa.
The inquest took place in Sutton Coldfield.
