Toxteth man in court charged with murdering his niece

A MAN appeared in court yesterday charged with murdering his niece.

Stephen Burns appeared before Liverpool Magistrates Court charged with the murder of Natalie O’Donoghue.

The teenager died in hospital on Saturday after she was stabbed at a house in Hill Street, Toxteth, around 3.50pm.

Her mother, Violet Burns, 60, was also stabbed and remained in a “serious but stable condition”.

The Daily Post understands Natalie recently became an auntie and friends posted tributes on Facebook.

Tearful neighbours spoke of their sadness at the news, adding Natalie was the daughter of Violet Burns, who is also believed to have a grown-up son called James.

Stephen Burns, 50, of Hill Street, Toxteth was arrested at the scene and charged on Sunday night with murder and attempted murder.

He was held at Belle Vale police station and appeared in court, wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and with a large black eye.

His case was committed to Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on December 23.
