EXCLUSIVE: First glimpse of Liverpool’s major registry office in St George's Hall move (GALLERY)

LIVERPOOL’S registrar services are being transferred to St George's Hall.

St George’s Hall will be the official home of births, marriages and deaths from January 23.

The coroner’s court, currently housed within the current Old Hall Street premises, will be located inside the Hall’s former civil courtroom.

Meanwhile, 200 wedding and civil ceremonies are already booked for next year.

They will be held either in Grand Jury room, or smaller Sefton Room.

Up to 100,000 people visit the current Cotton Exchange offices on Old Hall Street every year to register births, marriages and deaths.

There is also a nationality check-in facility, which can precede the citizenship process.

Citizenship ceremonies will also be held at the Hall.

Liverpool council said they began looking for alternative registry facilities around 15 months ago.

The council’s 10-year lease at the Cotton Exchange expired in 2010 and the option to renew was rejected, particularly given the need to save £50m for their budget.
