A CRACKDOWN on teenage gang members – pledged after the summer riots in Liverpool and elsewhere – will start early in the New Year, it was announced.
The "gang injunctions" – which can be served on 14 to 17-year olds, from January 9 – will ban them from socialising with suspected fellow gang members.
They can also be barred from entering certain areas of a town or city, or prevented from wearing certain “gang colours” in public.
The teenagers can also be required to participate in mentoring schemes, under the crackdown that can already be used to punish adults.
Theresa May, the Home Secretary, said: "We are providing the police and local authorities with the tools and powers they need to protect local communities.”
