THE Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra sent a letter of condolence to the Czech Republic, following the death of their former leader Vaclav Havel.
The ex-President and playwright died on Sunday morning, aged 76, at his country home just outside of Prague.
The letter from the RLPO will be included in a book of similar messages, which was planned during a cabinet meeting yesterday, as tributes began to flood in.
The orchestra visited the Czech Republic on many occasions, including at this year’s Dvorak Autumn Festival in September.
It first appeared there in 1988 with then chief conductor Czech- born Libor Pesek.
To honour the orchestra, Havel had previously insisted the castle’s lights were turned on during a performance and he was a guest at an RLPO party hosted by Pesek on a river barge.
