Fears man could lose sight after attack in Birkenhead street

DOCTORS are battling to save a man’s sight after he was left horrifically injured in a vicious street attack.

The 37-year-old victim was found unconscious off Singleton Avenue, Birkenhead, at around 4.40am yesterday.

A resident phoned for the emergency services after seeing the man lying still.

Stunned neighbours woke up on Boxing Day morning to find their neighbourhood had become a crime scene, with police tape cordoning off the junction of Singleton Avenue and Temple Road.

Police have launched a witness appeal as they tried to find the people behind the attack, which they said left the victim with “life-changing” injuries, including possibly losing his sight.

It is believed he was punched and kicked by a group of men as he walked along the road, although police said they were still working to establish a motive for the assault.

Witnesses should call 0151 777 2265.
