TEMPORARY road closures are being put in place to allow rail improvements to start.
It is the start of early work to electrify rail lines between Manchester, Liverpool, Huyton and Wigan.
Certain structures along the track need to be modified before overhead power cables can be put into place.
Sections from Liverpool to Newton-le-Willows and Huyton to Wigan are due to be electrified by 2014.
To allow the work to be carried out safely, the following roads will be closed temporarily:
Bridge Road, Roby, until April 7;
Junctions of Cross Lane, Shaw Lane and Hall Lane, Prescot, from January 10 to June 10;
Old Lane, Eccleston Park, until March 28;
Portico Lane, Eccleston Park, from February 27 to May 15.
Diversions will be put in place.
