MERSEYTRAVEL has appointed an interim Director General to replace its outgoing head Neil Scales.
Mr Scales, who has been in charge of Merseytravel for 15 years , is leaving to take up a new £300,000 post in Australia.
He is moving to Brisbane to become chief executive of south-east Queensland’s public transport authority, TransLink, in March.
Jim Barclay was approved as interim Director General at a sub- committee meeting of the authority yesterday.
Mr Barclay said:
“There are tough challenges and exciting times ahead, with the move to our new headquarters imminent, multi-million pound bids into the Local Sustainable Transport fund, the fight for new rolling stock and the continuing roll-out of Walrus, our innovative new smartcard.
“We face these challenges in a continuing era of economic uncertainty but we are in a strong position to continue moving the organisation forward.”
