THREE people were arrested on suspicion of arson after a major blaze at a derelict nightclub in Northwich.
More than 40 firefighters tackled the fire in the former Amber Lounge, in High Street, shortly after 8.30pm last night, Friday.
Cheshire Police said two men, aged 18 and 24, and a 45-old woman were arrested following the fire and remained in police custody.
A spokeswoman said: “Police and fire investigators are now working to establish the cause of the fire.
“Structural engineers will now examine the building to address any safety concerns.”
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters found a fire on the first floor of the building which had spread via panelling into the roof space of the three-storey building.
Two fire engines from Northwich, two from Winsford, two from Crewe, an engine and the hydraulic platform from Stockton Heath, and further fire engines from Holmes Chapel and Knutsford were sent to the scene.
The breathing apparatus control unit from Crewe and the Welfare Support Unit from Poynton were also sent to the incident.
Crews initially began fighting the fire from inside the building but had to withdraw because of concerns about the structure of the building.
They then began using three jets to fight the fire externally and began using the hydraulic platform. The number of jets was later increased to four with crews making use of nearby open water.
Police closed nearby roads and the Environment Agency was informed.
There were no reported injuries and no damage to adjoining premises, police confirmed.
