BRIAN PERCIVAL, the Liverpool-born director of hit TV show Downton Abbey said he was ‘gobsmacked’ at the show’s success at the Golden Globe awards.
Percival, born in Garston, is celebrating yet another award for the hit ITV1 series named best TV mini-series at the glittering ceremony.
Speaking from Los Angeles, he said: “I can’t explain the feeling, I’m stunned. It still hasn’t sunk in and it won’t sink in for a few weeks.
“It just feels so unreal. I just didn’t expect it coming from my background to be winning awards in Hollywood.
“I feel so incredibly lucky and privileged.”
The 49-year-old, who lives in Meols, Wirral, with his wife Julie Rutterford, co-writer of Sky One comedy Trollied, is still astounded by the following the period drama has in America.
He said: “There are 18 characters and there is someone for everyone.
"You love them and you love to hate some of them, and so you become engrossed in the stories.
