MERSEYSIDE arts organisations are being invited to bid for a share of £3.5m funding from Liverpool Council.
Successful applicants will have their grants protected for three years under the 2012-2015 Arts and Culture Investment Programme.
This is slightly less than the £3.8m allocated in 2011-2012.
Wendy Simon, cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: “Liverpool’s cultural offer is internationally renowned and despite the pressure of government funding cuts, we want to make sure the council’s commitment to investing in it continues.”
“The city’s arts programme has a huge impact on both the quality of people’s life and the local economy – research shows that for every £1 we spend on culture, £7.50 is reinvested in the city.
“It will be a difficult task to choose which organisation to fund, but we are confident those who are selected will ensure Liverpool’s unique cultural offer remains exceptional.”
ACIP is reserved exclusively for organisations who have culture at the heart of their business. From 2009-11, the council invested £8.3m in culture, supporting more than 120 organisations and projects which put on 12,400 events attended by 4.2m people.
