HARRY Potter actor Tony Maudsley is among the actors who have filmed for new Liverpool-made literacy dramas.
The daytime series from the makers of Moving On will focus on the theme of adult literacy, which is a key part of the BBC Learning strategy launched last year.
Nick Leather, Esther Wilson, Arthur Ellison, Lyn Papadopoulos and Jaden Clark have each written for the series, which has the working title Open Doors.
The five episodes will be made by Kirkdale-based LA Productions and shown on BBC One in the Spring.
They all feature people such as Tony’s character JJ, who face some degree of difficulty with reading or writing.
Producer Colin McKeown said the dramas would raise awareness of how low levels of literacy affect adults.
He added: “We want these stories to entertain and reduce the stigma associated with literacy problems.”
