MERSEYSIDE goes Jubilee crazy this Bank Holiday weekend with hundreds of street parties to celebrate Her Majesty’s 60th anniversary.

The celebrations are augmented by the arrival of the Olympic torch which will travel across Merseyside tomorrow.

So far, almost 200 community parties are pencilled in for roads across Merseyside with thousands planning on marking the monarch’s 60-year reign with a street party over the four day weekend.

This week work began on decking out streets with red, white and blue bunting in anticipation of trestle tables laden with goodies for those not attending the official events in London to commemorate the second Elizabethan Age.

Ann James, from Whitehedge Road, Garston, is helping prepare her street for the big day.

“We’re having a party on Sunday – it’ll start around 2pm and go on until the last person goes home!

“It’s a great community thing, with so many people coming together.”

The bulk of the street parties are set to take place either on Sunday or Monday, but celebrations are due to take place on all four days of the weekend.

And for those venturing out, there are plenty of other events celebrating the Queen’s 60 years across the city.
