Sections of Chester’s walls to be shut for repairs

THREE sections of Chester’s ancient Roman city walls will be closed at times this month for essential maintenance work.

The existing window frame and glazing at Thimbleby’s Tower near Newgate Bridge will be replaced as part of the European-funded Portico project and work starts on September 10. The walls path at this location will be closed for up to four weeks.

The city walls north of the East Gate Clock will shut for 10 weeks from September 17 along with the walkway while an archaeological survey and structural investigations take place.

And at the end of September the walls near the Northgate Steps, which are also propped, will be closed to walkers for eight weeks for similar archaeological and structural work.
