THE spotlight keeps shining on Merseyside’s magnificent historic architecture this month as National Heritage Open Days have been extended through September.
Among the top attractions this weekend will be often overlooked gems like the West Derby Court House, built in 1586 on orders of Elizabeth I and the UK’s only post - medieval court house, open Sunday, 2-4pm.
The only Liverpool Grade I-listed church is the C14th All Saints Childwall, open on Saturday 10am-4.30pm and Sunday 12.30-4pm. The 1814 “iron church” of St George’s, Everton, opens Saturday 10am - 4pm and Sunday 1-3pm.
The pioneering iron-framed building, 16 Cook Street, of 1866, is open on Saturday at 11am-4pm; Port of Liverpool Building, Pier Head, has a Saturday guided tour at noon. The Mersey Bar lightship Planet at Canning Dock, will open daily 11am-11pm, tours 2pm, weather permitting.
