Former Liverpool MP Jane Kennedy expected to win Police and Crime Commissioner election

FORMER Liverpool MP Jane Kennedy was today expected to become Merseyside’s first Police and Crime Commissioner.

Counting of votes was due to get under way this morning (FRI) with the result being formally announced after lunch.

Ms Kennedy, as the Labour candidate, is widely expected to win given the party’s strong performance in recent elections.

Turnout is expected to be extremely poor, with polling stations across Merseyside reporting very low numbers of voters casting votes.

Ahead of the election, it had been predicted that up to 80% of voters would stay away from the election which has failed to ignite much public debate.

If Ms Kennedy wins the election she look forward to a salary of around £80,000 and will oversee police budgets and set crime fight policies.
