MICHAEL SHOWERS claimed there are more than 2m unresolved cases going through the Turkish system and that he could be stuck in the prison for a long time without trial.
“Even when sentenced, it’s not official until it is ‘confirmed’ by a second court. Even if the sentence expires, you cannot be released if the sentence you are serving has not been confirmed,” he said.
“My last court appearance was a complete and utter waste of time because the senior of the four judges was replaced for some reason so we could not proceed with the case. The court system is in disarray at present, as they have taken a lot of cases out of the hands of the military. My court was a military one.
“But, civilian or military, the legal system is a farce. What else is it where one of your judges can be chatting on a mobile during proceedings.
“My own government officials and law enforcement agencies are lying to bury me here. But I still fight on.”
