MERSEYSIDE professor John Ashton has been elected to a senior national position with the Royal College of Physicians.
Prof Ashton, from Woolton, was elected as the Faculty of Public Health’s (FPH) next president from 2013 to 2016.
He is the former North West director of public health and was one of the first people to question the actions of the emergency services at Hillsborough, where he helped treat the injured.
Current FPH president Prof Lindsey Davies said: “John brings his considerable experience, enthusiasm and passion for public health to the role of President and I wish him every success in leading the organisation through the challenges of the next three years.”
Prof Ashton will take up office at the AGM in 2013.
