AN INVESTIGATION was launched into alleged “discrepancies” in the expenses of Lancashire’s new police and crime commissioner.
Clive Grunshaw started the inquiry into himself after a Sunday newspaper revealed he may have double-claimed for meetings he attended at Lancashire County Council and the ex-police authority.
Today he insisted: “At no point have I wilfully submitted claims which I know to be untrue.”
The issue is now the subject of an inquiry by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
The probe comes on the back of a blunder from his press office which saw a saucy Bond girl Christmas card emailed to dozens of journalists. Three members of staff had their heads superimposed on three silhouettes striking provocative poses. Just two hours later, journalists were sent a second festive e-card which included a traditional winter wonderland scene.
A message from a member of the press office said: “Please accept my apologies for the Christmas card you received in error.”
The Sunday Times reported how Commissioner Grunshaw had made 23 expense claims over the past three years, covering his work for the county council and the now defunct police authority.
