Body of man found in Arrowe Park feared to be missing Wirral newlywed John Ankers

John Ankers

THE body of a man discovered in woodland today was feared to be that of missing Wirral newlywed John Ankers.

The 28-year-old, from Woodchurch, was last seen on Sunday morning just days after learning he was to be made redundant following the collapse of DVD rental chain Blockbuster.

A member of the public made the discovery in woodland near Arrowe Park hospital at around 11am this morning.

Crime scene investigators are at the scene and the investigation is in its early stages.

The ECHO understands that Mr Ankers’ family have been informed of the discovery.

His wife Katrina, whom he married in September, told how her husband was last seen leaving home in Woodchurch, Wirral, to go to work on Sunday morning, but failed to turn up.

He was told last week that his workplace in Birkenhead was at risk and was said to be depressed.

Hundreds of friends and family had scoured Wirral and Liverpool looking for him.

Merseyside police were tonight set to carry out a formal identification.

A spokesman said: “Detectives are treating the death as unexplained”.
