Police investigate two distraction burglaries in Wirral

TWO elderly women were left shaken after burglars posing as officials attempted to steal from them.

Both incidents took place on the same day in Wirral, first in Hoylake Road in Moreton, then at South View in Bromborough.

In both cases the women were told there was a “local emergency” and the men asked to enter the house, before rummaging through belongings while the owner was distracted in another room.

The first incident took place at around 2.30pm on Thursday, January 17, while the second happened at 4.45pm.

In both cases the burglars were interrupted before they could take anything, and police have not ruled out a connection between the incidents.

DI Mark Tivendale, said: “This type of crime is despicable; victims of distraction burglary can suffer terribly both emotionally and physically and it can seriously affect their trust and faith in people afterwards.”

An investigation is continuing, and detectives are urging anyone with information about them to call 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
