A KEY meeting is expected to reveal the extent of cuts being planned by Wirral council as it struggles to balance its budget.
The authority said it has a budget deficit of £39m this coming year, as well as £38m of “one-off” costs – but is facing opposition from groups trying to protect services.
At a meeting of the authority’s budget cabinet at Wallasey Town Hall today, councillors will be making key decisions on proposals following its consultation “What Really Matters”.
The ruling cabinet will use the results of the consultation to help decide on the future of services ranging from day care centres, youth clubs, children’s centres and lollipop crossing patrols to reductions in street cleaning, parks and highways maintenance.
The final decision will be made at full council on March 4.
