Merseyside brain hospital names ward after war hero Noel Chavasse

MERSEYSIDE’S specialist brain hospital has opened a new ward in tribute to Liverpool war hero Captain Noel Chavasse.

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust officially opened the Chavasse Ward during a special ceremony attended by members of the Chavasse family.

The launch of the ward, which is part of a multi-million pound expansion at the hospital, was also attended by the Company 4th Battalion Lancashire Regiment, the Liverpool Scottish Regimental Museum Trust and the contractors who helped build it.

Army doctor Capt Chavasse was the only person to receive two Victoria Crosses in World War II and the Military Cross for bravery in treating soldiers in battle.
