Retailer Textiles Direct 'goes into administration'

THE future of shop chain Textiles Direct appears uncertain tonight amid reports the company has collapsed.

Members of staff at two Merseyside stores said they were told this morning that the company had gone into administration.

Textiles Direct has stores in Belle Vale, Birkenhead, Kirby, Liscard, the St Johns Centre in Liverpool and St Helens, as well as in Warrington and Chester.

One local store manager, who did not want to be named, said: “They (Textiles Direct) have  gone into administration to save the core of the business.” They said all stores were open as normal while administrators made their plans, and said they had no idea what the future held.

“We are in limbo,” they added.

Textiles Direct’s address on Companies House is given as Wilson Lane, Huyton, but the store manager said the company had recently moved its base to Oldham.

Textiles Direct has not returned the ECHO’s call.

Derek Millar, Commercial Director for The Grange and Pyramids Shopping Centre, said: “I can confirm that the Textiles Direct store at The Grange and Pyramids Shopping Centre is still open.

“Our thoughts and best wishes are with the staff at this uncertain time.”
