Fire crews called to scene after van catches fire on M53 at Woodchurch

A VAN caught fire on the M53 in Woodchurch this morning.

Fire crews were called out to the Arrowe Park junction just after 11.30am and found the flat bed van well alight.

One lane of the motorway was closed near the hard shoulder and sliproad while crews tackled the blaze.

The van driver was unharmed.

The cause of the fire is thought to be a suspected electrical fault.

A spokesman for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: “Large volumes of smoke were crossing the motorway carriageway and firefighters had to act quickly to extinguish the fire.”
