US private equity firm buys Liverpool's Malmaison Hotel

LIVERPOOL’S upmarket Malmaison hotel has been sold as part of a deal with a US private equity firm.

KSL Capital Partners, based in Denver, Colorado, has acquired the Malmaison Group, which includes 27 Malmaison and Hotel du Vin hotels, for an undisclosed sum.

In a statement, Malmaison said: “With 27 hotels, the transaction will cement Malmaison and Hotel du Vin’s position as the UK’s leading boutique brands, with KSL planning to invest significantly in the existing portfolio and in the growth of both hotel brands.

Liverpool’s Malmaison, in Princes Dock, opened in January, 2007 but a couple of years afterwards its £2.5m stonework started to come loose and a building survey determined the entire work needed to be redone.

Late last year it revealed it was to spend £200,000 on a bar refurbishment project and also reported a rise in occupancy in its 120 rooms.
