THE Silver Jubilee Bridge has reopened after it was shut due to falling snow and ice.

Cheshire police announced it was fully open at about 1.20pm.

It was shut for between two and  three hours in total, bringing delays and inconvenience to the  borough.

Police have warned motorists to be  careful under the hazardous conditions.

A constabulary spokeswoman  said: “The motorway network is  passable with care but delays  are  to be expected.

“Please check the Highways Authority website for more updates.

“Police are offering the following  advice.

“Only make journeys that are absolutely  necessary.

“Ensure your car is fully defrosted  with full  visibility.

“Maintain a safe and constant  speed and  avoid sudden braking that can cause your car to skid.”

RUNCORN Widnes bridge has shut after falling ice hit cars.

Halton Borough Council said blocks of ice and snow falling had struck vehicles.

Cheshire police said it will provide updates to the public in due course.

Halton experienced heavy snow overnight, leading to the closures of several schools and road safety warnings from the police.
