Rhys Jones trial: Revealed - the simmering court feud which led to Rhys's death

11-year-old Rhys Jones was shot and killed outside the Fir Tree pub in Croxteth Park, Liverpool

“The incidents of criminal damage to which I have referred include at least 70 occasions on which acts of criminal damage have been committed against property connected with members of the respective gangs.

“The incidents of assault to which I have referred include many occasions on which members of one gang have discharged firearms at members of the other gang.

“Until the killing of Rhys Jones, the best known manifestation of this feud was the murder of Liam Smith, a member of The Strand Gang, who was shot dead outside Altcourse Prison on August 23, 2006.

“Four members of The Croxteth Crew have been convicted of offences arising out of that incident – three men have been convicted of murder and one man has been convicted of manslaughter.”

It is alleged that the defendant, Kays, was the person who rang Mercer at 7.08pm on August 22, alerting him to the presence of Wayne Brady and the others at the Fir Tree pub.
