A TEENAGE relative of alleged killer Sean Mercer told jurors he is “too scared” to give evidence against him.
The 16-year-old, who can only be named as Boy G, was held in contempt of court yesterday after refusing to answer any questions about the night of the fatal shooting.
In the wake of the murder of Rhys Jones, the teenager gave three statements to police, each with a different version of events.
But when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court via video-link yesterday, he refused to answer any questions put to him by Neil Flewitt, QC, prosecuting.
Answering every question “no comment”, he said: “I’m not prepared to answer questions or give evidence against a family member.”
When told by judge Mr Justice Irwin it was his “duty” to answer the questions, the youngster added: “I am really scared.”
His evidence was watched by alleged Croxteth Crew member Mercer in the dock and Mercer’s parents in the public gallery.
Mr Justice Irwin told the youth he was in contempt of court.
He told him that he should get legal advice, and ordered him to reappear at court on Monday.
