Bomb suspect quizzed in Australia

A BRITISH investigator is preparing to question Mohammad Haneef in Australia after he was arrested at Brisbane Airport over the failed bombings in London and Glasgow.

Dr Haneef, 27, who worked as a locum at Halton Hospital, is being held under counter-terrorism laws that allow police to detain a suspect without charge as long as a judge agrees there are grounds to do so.

Police had until last night to charge him, release him or seek a detention extension.

A counter-terrorism expert from the team investigating the failed bombings in London and Glasgow has arrived in Brisbane and Australian police were still examining potential evidence seized with search warrants during Haneef’s arrest – mobile phone records are among the evidence.

His cousin Sabeel Ahmed, who was arrested on Lime Street on Sunday, is still being held at Paddington Green Police Station, along with six other suspects. Police have until tomorrow to question them.
