Police seek cause of death blast

Police are working to establish the cause of an explosion that killed a man.

Structural engineers are still attempting to make safe the site of the blast which demolished three terrace properties in Stanley Road, South Harrow, north west London, on Wednesday night.

The dead man's body was removed on Thursday night from the rubble of the house where he died, Scotland Yard said.

The man, who has not been identified, was killed in a blast that left two other people with serious injuries.

Murder squad detectives believe the blast might have been sparked deliberately.

Police were originally called after reports of a gas explosion, but engineers could find no fault with the mains supply.

Once the site has been made safe, police investigators will move in and attempt to find the cause of the explosion.

Police refused to confirm the identity of the dead man but said he will be named once his next of kin have been informed.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place in the next two days.
