Cat is back in 10 Downing Street

A cat is living in 10 Downing Street for the first time in 10 years, it was announced.

Chancellor Alistair Darling and his wife Margaret have brought their black and white cat Sybil to live with them in their flat above the famous front door.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown's spokesman said Sybil - named after the  landlady in Fawlty Towers - had the run of Downing Street.

The previous official mouser Humphrey was sent into retirement amid reports that Cherie Blair was either allergic to cats or thought them unhygienic.
