Beards 'helped servicemen'

British servicemen has told how growing beards helped them in their battle against insurgents during a deployment in Afghanistan.

The RAF soldiers from RAF Lossiemouth were told to cultivate facial hair ahead of the six-month deployment at Kandahar airfield.

Now back at the Scottish airbase, they spoke of how their beards had commanded them respect from the Afghanistan people.
