A house-husband scoffed down 26 mince pies during a national extreme eating competition - but later admitted he needed more training if he was to take on the Americans at the sport.

Clive Pearson, 34, munched his way through a mountain of pies to claim the £1,000 top prize at the Big Eat contest, at Wookey Hole, Wells, Somerset.

The determined father of one eased to victory after using a drink-pie-drink-pie tactic during the 10-minute eat-off.
