Zulu theft

An engineer was fined after a court heard how he stole a historic Zulu pen from Cambridge University Library, police said.

The wooden pen was used to sign a peace treaty with the British in 1879 following a war in South Africa which featured one of the most famous battles in history.

William Harmer, 22, of Comberton, Cambridgeshire, stole it while working in the library in 2004, magistrates in Cambridge heard. He was fined £250.
