Priestly protest
A group of women defied a centuries-old ban and entered the Mount Athos monastic sanctuary in northern Greece to protest in a land dispute with the Orthodox Christian monks.
No arrests were made, but the public prosecution service in nearby Thessaloniki is investigating.
The ban on women is upheld by Greece’s constitution and violations are punishable by up to a year in prison.
