Rattled by holiday surprise

A teacher from Virginia was bitten by a rattlesnake that emerged from his suitcase as he unpacked after a trip to a neighbouring state.

Andy Bacas said he felt a sharp pain on his hand when he reached into his luggage then saw the snake and slammed the suitcase shut.

It is thought the snake had crawled into the bag when it was left open on a porch. Mr Bacas is recovering in hospital.
