Curtains up, lights out

The opening night of a West End play was performed in near darkness after a power cut.

The Gielgud Theatre was packed with critics and celebrities for the opening of God Of Carnage starring Ralph Fiennes and Tamsin Greig.

But two-thirds of the way through the show the lights went out because of a power cut in central London.

Theatre owner Sir Cameron Mackintosh went on stage to explain the problem and after a 10-minute delay the show went on - with only emergency lighting.
