Mole man

A man has been ordered to pay £300,000 after building a network of tunnels underneath his home which almost caused it to collapse.

William Lyttle, known locally as the Mole Man, was ordered by the High Court to pay for council repairs to his house in Hackney, east London.

Mr Lyttle, 77, had spent 40 years excavating a labyrinth of tunnels before Hackney Council evicted him in 2006 to stabilise the structure.
